A Fujifilm for someone who likes photographs and hates editing

The picture comes out of the camera already looking the way they wanted.

Fujifilm offers something nobody else quite does. There is a dial of colour styles on the top of the camera. You turn it, you take the picture, and the photograph already looks the way you hoped it would.

That suits a particular person: somebody who loves photographing and has no interest at all in sitting at a computer afterwards. It is also, quietly, most people who say they used to enjoy photography and gave it up.

So the answer is

A small camera they will want to carry

The colour dial, a firmer hold, and a lens small enough that the camera still disappears into a bag. This is the one to choose if the risk is that a bigger camera would stay at home.

The present

What goes with it

Not needed on the day. Add one if you want the present to feel finished.

What it gives up

It is a good deal smaller and lighter than the X-T5, and it gives up the sealing against rain to be that size. One lens also means one view.

Two other ways to go

Spends more

For someone who wants to slow down and look

Fujifilm X-T5

Dials for everything, a great deal of detail, and the portrait lens that people buy Fujifilm cameras for. This rewards patience rather than speed, so it suits a person who enjoys the act of photographing.

Why not this one. It is bigger in the hand and heavier in a bag than the X-T50, which takes the same picture. The size buys sealing against rain, a dial for everything, and a second card slot. It is also slower to work with, on purpose.

Another way

One camera, one lens, nothing to decide

Fujifilm X100VI

There is no lens to choose and nothing to carry beyond the camera itself. It is beautiful enough that it gets picked up, and a camera that gets carried takes far more photographs than a better one left at home.

Why not this one. The lens does not come off, so the view they get is the only view they get.
